Dinghy Regatta 5

The full regatta: five beech-hulled dinghies with paper sails, spread across more than two feet of air. Christian Flensted's 1964 design balances the fleet on stainless-steel arms so finely that a door closing down the hall is enough to start a race, and because the boats hang at staggered heights they cross and re-cross rather than simply turning.

At 14 inches tall and 25 wide this is the size for a living room, a covered porch, a stairwell or a room with a coastal theme. It has become a classic gift for new parents who sail, for a retirement, or for anyone whose happiest days are on the water. It's decorative enough for adults and simple enough that a toddler will name the boats.

Handmade in Denmark by the Flensted family workshop since 1953.
