Description
Rings within rings, all in motion: Science Fiction is the mobile that made Flensted's name in 1955, and the red version is the one you'll recognize from design museums. Christian Flensted drew it as a miniature solar system: a beech "planet" ringed by orbits that rotate independently, so the pattern you see from your chair keeps reorganizing itself.
Red is the bold choice. Against a white wall the rings read as a graphic, and with a lamp to one side the shadow it casts is almost a second mobile. It's compact at 9.4 inches, which makes it an easy first Flensted: it fits a home office, an entryway, a bedroom corner, and it's a well-judged gift for someone who loves mid-century design but already owns the chairs.
Still made by hand in Denmark, one at a time, by the same family workshop that started in 1953.
